According to the project, sign-ups for World ID are going on globally at an almost unbelievable rate.

Despite the wide criticisms against Worldcoin, the human ID project has surpassed all expectations. Shortly after its launch on July 25, the blockchain-based project immediately faced a smear campaign from data privacy advocates. However, it appears that the negativity has not affected its prospects in any way. According to a fresh report, over 9,500 users in Argentina signed up on Worldcoin in a single day in August, setting a record for the highest number of daily sign-ups.

By calculations, it means that the project’s facilitators were signing users on at an average rate of about nine seconds on the day.

In its August 31 announcement, Worldcoin also confirmed the average rate of sign-ups for the record day. Considering that the project has its facilitators spread across 38 locations throughout Argentina, there is no doubt how the feat came to be achieved.

Users in Argentina Are Loving Worldcoin despite Backlash

As earlier mentioned, so much criticism has trailed the launch of the Worldcoin project. For its critics, their concern borders on the fact that it is too centralized. They claim that this gives room for the project to easily leak users’ biometric data, thereby causing problems for the users.

Interestingly, however, the project that allows individuals to prove they’re human by scanning their irises is doing the numbers still. According to the project, sign-ups for World ID are going on globally at an almost unbelievable rate. Part of the announcement reads:

“There was a significant increase in demand for World ID verifications in countries around the world [after launch].”

It is also worth mentioning that though the demand for Worldcoin is virtually all over, it may be stronger than most in Argentina. To put that into perspective, firstly, over 9,500 Argentines verified their World ID in a single day. In addition, the sign-ups also took the Worldcoin app to the number one spot in Argentina on the App Store.

Authorities to Scrutinize Project

Meanwhile, the criticisms of the project have not gone to waste. That is despite its huge success so far. In response to the concerns of critics, the Argentine government is currently investigating Worldcoin’s privacy practices.

But elsewhere, for instance in Kenya, Worldcoin has been suspended. However, the team maintains that it has fully complied with “all laws and regulations governing biometric data collection and data transfer.” That is in every country.
