World’s Top 10 Richest Records Doubled Fortune During Pandemic

The 10 richest people on earth saw their collective fortunes increase 2X during the first two years of the pandemic. Their fortunes advanced from $700 billion to $1.4 trillion. According to Oxfam, that represents a rate of about $15,000 per second. Oxfam’s executive director, Gabriela Bucher, analyzes in the report:

“If these 10 men were to lose 99.999% of their wealth tomorrow, they would still be richer than 99% of all the people on this planet. They now have six times more wealth than the poorest 3.1 billion people.”

As the rich got richer, “the incomes of 99% of humanity are worse off” due to the global heath crisis. About 163 million more people are estimated to be living in poverty, relying on less than $5.50 a day.

“If we are courageous, and listen to the movements demanding change, we can create an economy in which nobody lives in poverty, nor with unimaginable wealth- in which inequality no longer kills,” states Oxfam.
