BitcoinTalk is experiencing a denial of service attack.

The BitcoinTalk, the world’s largest Bitcoin forum, has recently posted on its official Twitter account that there is a DoS attack on its website. The forum is currently offline.

Some of the users complained that the avatar functionality had also been attacked. Other suggested that the forum blocks users from uploading avatars due to security concerns:

“someone has also attacked the avatar functionality. hehe”

A user Brandon Holder suggested the forum use its fund of donated Bitcoins to protect the website against DoS attacks:

“Do you guys use any sort of protection against these attacks? If not, then I think now is a good time to start. Use that money!”

However, some of the users took the opportunity to thank the representatives of the forum for their efforts and wished good luck in solving the problem:

“good luck. And thanks for all the work that you put into this amazing site!”

The service Is It Down Right Now, that helps one find whether the website is down or not, reports that bitcointalk.org went offline at some point between 18:38-20:38 (UTC/GMT -7).

The representatives of the service posted on its website:

“We have tried pinging Bitcoin Talk website using our server… If bitcointalk.org is down for us too there is nothing you can do except waiting. Probably the server is overloaded, down or unreachable because of a network problem, outage or a website maintenance is in progress…”

Hovewer, it is still unknown who is behind the attacks and when the representatives of the BitcoinTalk will be able to solve the problem.

Moreover, this is not the first time that the forum has experienced downtime: the forum has fallen victim to a number of DDoS attacks, hacks, and other unexpected events in the past.
